France team reunited with their talisman
The return of Zinedine Zidane alongside Claude Makelele and Lilian Thuram for France’s friendly with Côte d’Ivoire bore instant fruit on Wednesday night in Montpellier.
After a year of soul-searching and indecision, Les Bleus were very much their old conquering selves against the in-form Africans, running out comfortable 3-0 winners. The victory is the perfect tonic for a French side preparing for crucial 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™ qualifying matches in September and October.
For the first time since Raymond Domenech took over in the wake of a disappointing UEFA EURO 2004, France managed to score three goals. But most importantly of all, they displayed a voracious appetite for the game which was starkly lacking last season, as the seven draws registered prior to this win over the Ivorians had illustrated.
