Questions before the final draw
On Friday 9 December at the Leipzig Exhibition Centre the Final Draw for the FIFA World Cup 2006 will be held. 32 coaches of the qualified countries will know what, who, to expect in the first round of World Cup 2006 in Germany.
The open question, which still remains, are the seeds for the draw. FIFA will officially determine the seeds on December 6, only 3 days from the final draw. As we can assume, the same formula will be used as in previous draws.
There will be eight seeded teams, among them Germany, who have already been assigned to Group A. The eight chosen seeds will be placed in Pot 1, and drawn as the first teams in Groups A to H, from left to right. The 24 remaining teams will then be assigned to Pots 2, 3 and 4. As soon as a team is drawn, another draw will be made to allocate this team its place in a group.
I’m not going to predict the seeds like many others are doing this days. Personally I think all of them are wrong. FIFA will use its own formula based on various criteria such as the FIFA Coca-Cola World Ranking.
