The Best African Player Of The Last 50 Years

The Best African PlayerThe Confederation of African Football is organizing a voting system through its website inviting Internet users to choose African best player in the last 50 years. The longest short list, I have ever seen, includes 200 players who performed significantly on continental level in the last 50 years. The selection was made on the basis of national, regional and continental performance as well as FIFA World Cup and Olympic tournament.

All votes should be sent to CAF by email to caf50@cafonline.com before 15th November 2006. Only one player can be selected and you must explain in few lines the motives backing your choice.

My vote went to the Liberian George Manneh Oppong Ousman Weah. In 1995, he was named FIFA World Player of the Year, European Footballer of the Year and African Footballer of the Year.

I am a Liberian and as such I stand by my Country man, George Weah for clinching three titles in one year 1995 and for scoring a one man organized goal from pole to pole.

Even though I’m a nigerian, i think samuel eto’o of cameroun deserve the award. he has won 3 consecutive african player of the year award, 3rd world best player of the year for 2005, and european forward of the year for 2006. he has carried the spanish la liga championship being the higest goal scorer for the league and the uefa campions league. he is simply the best.

Lets not compare football in the 60’s 70’s 80′ nd 90′ to the model and dimensional football of nowadays,Am a Nigerian but can take my time to Analyz why Micheal Essien is my choice,He fits in every season and at all wings,is not only a defendre or a midfielder,He is an attacking midfielder which non of these above mentioned players have ever played. He is a man that no team can do without
