Fabio Cannavaro Wins Europe’s Top Player Award
Real Madrid defender Fabio Cannavaro, who captained Italy to soccer’s World Cup 2006 title, won the 51st annual Ballon d’Or trophy - 2006 Europe’s top footballer award. Cannavaro, previously voted the second-best player at the World Cup 2006 after Zinedine Zidane, finished in front of his Italy teammate Gianlugi Buffon and Arsenal’s Thierry Henry.
