The Galaxy centers on David Beckham

Soccer is the sports underdog in America, as compared to the phenomenally warm reception of fans and audiences to American football and basketball. But soccer seems to be clamoring for attention nowadays, with LA Galaxy’s new quarterback. The quarterback is a team member whose role is to execute the play, and is considered the leader of the offensive team. He is found directly at the center of the game. In other words, he gets to play the “star” card. Although usually found in football teams, LA Galaxy’s new recruit has all the makings of a quarterback.

Beckham’s experience with the quarterback leader status intensified during the time of Swedish football manager Sven-Goran Eriksson and his knack for keeping his team captain at the center of the games.

The tactic was deemed not to have turned out a big success. As the opposing players manage to point out the one in charge, they naturally surge toward him, and a soccer quarterback would not have a solid system of team mates to support him.

However, news buzzed about English midfielder, David Beckham, transferring to Los Angeles, California to join the stars and play for LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer. Probably fueled by the arrival of a promising team member, LA Galaxy also recently revealed a new logo and new home shirts, clearly showing that they are keen for a fresh start this season. To top it off, given a number of considerable factors concerning Beckham’s arrival, LA Galaxy may just decide to put him back up to the quarterback role.

Needless to say, the English soccer star was definitely an investment, and probably a pricey one too, that LA Galaxy would be expecting to get the most out of him. Naturally, they would try to milk him out for what he’s worth. Especially after a run of the mill start to the season, they would definitely be turning to their big investment to save the day.

The quarterback role also tends to be considered the team’s star, and with Beckham’s appeal to the public, he certainly has the “star” part down pat. LA Galaxy can take advantage of this to lure even non-soccer fans into the sport and propel it to an increased popularity among the American audience. American Beckham fans, although not entirely soccer fans, would definitely flock to the stadium. Even casual Americans may just show up at games to watch him out of sheer curiosity. With Beckham’s reputation as a soccer hero and international star status, even if he does not indeed spur soccer popularity, with him as the star, he is sure to bring in more watchers than usual. He has the appeal and LA Galaxy may choose to maximize this.

To top it all off, his talent is not to be underestimated. He wouldn’t have become a star if not for it. He is known for his spectacular scoring, accurate kicking, and his expertise with dead balls. Beckham does have impressively definitive dead ball situations that led his team to three World Cup Final tournaments under his belt. Even non-soccer fans would surely be sent to their feet to witness his celebrated soccer prowess in actual. They would certainly be hoping to get even just a glimpse of the skill that previously led his team’s way to the 2002 Finals with a sweeping last minute strike against Greece, which is considered to be his finest moment. And if he exhibits the same ingenuity now that he’s playing for LA Galaxy, it will definitely make all the recruitment fuss all worth it, both for him and for the team.

With all these factors coming into play, LA Galaxy would definitely put him right smack in the middle of all the action. And he’s proven that he is the man for the job, too. Let’s face it. David Beckham is just soccer quarterback material.
