Kewell returns to Australian squad

Liverpool winger Harry Kewell returns to Australian team in friendly match against Jamaica. The game will be played in London on Sunday and it will be Australia’s last before their World Cup play-off against yet unknown South American team next month.

The 27 year old has played only 28 minutes for Liverpool’s reserves this season following surgery in June after he was controversially selected to start last season’s Champions League final but limped off early in the first half.

Argentina fix date for friendly with England

Reuters.com - Argentina have arranged to play England in a friendly in Geneva on November 12 if Sven-Goran Eriksson’s men have already qualified for the World Cup, the Argentine Soccer Association (AFA) said.

The match would serve as a warm-up for the finals in Germany in 2006, for which Argentina qualified in June with a 3-1 win over World Cup holders Brazil.

But if England have not qualified by that date and are involved in a two-legged playoff during November 12-16, Argentina say they will play another top European nation.

Injured Keane out of Republic of Ireland squad

Tottenham striker Robbie Keane has withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland squad to face Italy on Wednesday with an ankle injury.

Keane picked up the injury in training on Friday and missed Spurs’ 2-0 win over Portsmouth on Saturday.
